Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterised by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear, or worry, by repetitive behaviours aimed at reducing that anxiety…It’s where a person keeps doings the same things, thinking the same thiogs and feeling the same things over and over again.
It’s like being stuck on a roundabout continually going around in the same circle.
One young man came to see me because he just could not stop washing his hands. Every time he noticed anything change in his immediate environment, from the weather to the TV program, he just had to wash his hands again. Not that it stopped there, other body parts were meticulously scrubbed, before and after every toilet visit. In both pockets, he carried three bottles of alcohol gel.
When clients come to see me with this type of problem, the approach I use is to allow the person to relax and not make the same suggestions to themselves; to open up thier freedom to make different choices in the way they think about, feel about and picture the options they have; to not be stuck in the old routines.
Give me a call, and I will give you an honest answer, If I can help you, I will.
